Dense fog across parts of Punjab disrupted rail operations on Tuesday, causing delays in several trains departing from Lahore and Faisalabad for Karachi, Quetta, Rawalpindi and other major cities, railway officials said.
According to Pakistan Railways, poor visibility during the day affected the departure timings of a few long-distance trains, prompting authorities to adjust schedules to ensure passenger safety.
The Karakoram Express (42-Down), which was scheduled to depart from Lahore for Karachi at 3 pm, left the station one hour and 30 minutes late at 4:30 pm. Officials cited fog-related operational issues for the delay.
Meanwhile, the Pak Business Express (34-Down) for Karachi departed on time at 4:30 pm, providing relief to passengers amid concerns of widespread disruptions.
The Karachi Express (16-Down) also faced a delay and departed Lahore at 6:45 pm instead of its scheduled 6 pm time, marking a 45-minute delay due to reduced visibility.

Railway authorities clarified that all other trains bound for Karachi, Quetta, Rawalpindi and other destinations are running according to their scheduled timings, and no major cancellations have been reported so far.
Officials added that railway staff are closely monitoring weather conditions and remain prepared to make further adjustments if fog intensifies during night hours. Passengers have been advised to stay in contact with railway helplines and check updated schedules before reaching stations.
Dense fog is a recurring winter challenge in Punjab, often impacting road, air and rail travel. Authorities stressed that safety remains the top priority and delays are implemented only when necessary to avoid accidents.
